about

This is an old gem. This sessions were recorded in an old austrian blockhouse, during a cold winter (don’t ask why!!!), and when I listen to it I still remember the freezing experience.

It was 2005. Kunfufunk was a group formed by young forward thinkers Filippo Mantione, Nicola Monti, Manuel Brunelli and me. We were listening to Matthew Shipp, Red Snapper, Miles Davis, Medeski Martin & Wood. We liked jazz but we weren’t “polished cats”...still this was absolutely a plus: we brought in our personal dirt, and the music often took unexpected directions.

It was a funny and creative time. We members still meet or play in gigs with different lineups, and always there’s a melancholic word for Kunfufunk!

So I think the Blockhouse Sessions deserve to be listened some more. Play the tracks loud! And spread the word for this great album!
